Within the framework of a Technical Assistance (TA) programme to support its Financial Sector Operations in Southern Africa launched by the European Investment Bank (EIB) in 2015 already four EIB Southern Africa SME and Microfinance Academies have been organised, i.e. in Pretoria (2016), Lusaka (2017), Johannesburg (2018) and Lilongwe (2019). This fifth EIB Academy was held in Stellenbosch, South Africa, from 3rd to 5th February 2020 and the theme was “Climate Action, borrowing and lending adaptation by the financial sector”.
About 90 persons participated: The EU delegation from South Africa was represented as were financial institutions and development banks from Comoros Islands, Eswatini, Namibia, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, and Zambia. Besides, African Trade Insurance Agency, ATI, an agricultural insurance provider from South Africa, a bankers’ training institute from Zambia, and two South Africa-based FinTechs participated.
