African Green Alpha – A globally competitive investable asset class – Making Development Investable.
Africa is facing an unprecedented economic opportunity: the global shift toward green industry and sustainable investment. This moment is defined not by circumstance, but by leadership. The continent’s governments, investors, and industry leaders are poised to transform Africa into a driving force of global green growth, with intentional strategy, coordinated capital, and bold execution.
This high-level the briefing presents the GreenAlpha Strategy, developed in response to Nairobi Declaration and the institutional investment initiative of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC). The strategy is designed to mobilize private and institutional investment at scale, channeling it into African NDC-aligned green industrial infrastructure as an investable asset class.
Grounded by the African Unions’ (AU) 5% Agenda’s Institutional Investor-Public Partnerships (IIPPs) model and informed by multi-stakeholder public and private consultations with the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) Investable Asset Classes Working Group and the African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank, GreenAlpha offers a clear, actionable framework. This framework aligns political vision with the mechanisms needed to attract and deploy one trillion dollars in investable capital into NDC-aligned green industrial infrastructure and Green Industrial Cities, positioning Africa as a global hub for green industrial investment by 2040.
