The African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank (AfGIIB) initiative is an African Union convened, African institutional investor-led global finance initiative, to catalyze private capital for Africa’s green transition. The AfGIIB’s mission is to create, ahead of COP27 that will be hosted in Africa, a specialist, independent, and commercially-run financial institution that is both sustainable and profitable, with a pure green focus.
The AfGIIB initiative was announced by the Sovereign Wealth and Pension Fund Leaders Forum, during the 2021 Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, hosted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
